A Child Called “it” by Dave pelzer
A Child called “it” is a book about one child’s courage to survive. It is a true story about the author Dave Pelzer. His alcoholic mother used to beat him and Dave was forced to swallow soap, ammonia and Clorox . His mom used to starve him so Dave was forced to eat his own vomit! Dave’s childhood was a nightmare. At the early age of 4 Dave had his feelings replaced with fear, starvation and lowliness. But Dave never gave up he wanted to survive. Dave’s mother used to call him “it” because she no longer considered him her son or eve that a human he was just an “it” to her. It makes me disgusted to think that a mother can treat her own flesh and blood like this. This book made me cry but I am glad that Dave got help and finally escaped from the hands of his abusive mother on March 5, 1973. Dave Pelzer’s abuse case has been called one of the worst abuse cases in California’s history. I would recommend this book to everyone.

A Child Called It is a horrifying story of abuse, neglect, and lonliness. In your worst nightmares you would never even dream of going through what the young Dave Pelzer goes through. As a young child Dave’s mother turns into a raging alcoholic who is angry on the inside and takes it out on Dave. Dave is forced to do unimaginably awful things. He feels all alone in the world, but there is nothing he can do about it. When reading this story you can’t help but cringe and feel so grateful for the life that you have. Just imagining what life would be like in Dave’s shoes is terrifying. This novel is one of the most disturbing novels that you will ever read, but when your reading you can’t let it out of your hands. Every person should read this book so that they can be aware what some people are going through and so that they can appreciate their lives even more.
I personally agree with Perveen. This novel is very sad and will make you feel very grateful for what you have bcause no one will ever want to go through what Dave Pelzer went through. I also recommend this novel to everyone, however, if your very sensitive good luck! Sometimes many things happen to us for a reason and now Dave will always remember his childhood but I’m sure that like many other people we regret many choices that we may make.
