The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier

The Chocolate War is a good book. The book is about a young freshmen, Jerry Renault, and how he arouses the wrath of the scool bullies, the Vigils, after refusing to sell chocolates for his school’s annual fund raiser. The bullies decide to make his years in high scool miserable until he decides to sell the chocolates. I enjoyed this book because of Jerry’s decision to face the school bullies head on and not sell the chocolates. In my opinion this book is a must read because its a good story of what the new kid at school, Jerry, faces.

The Chocolate War to me is a book about teenage boy rebellion, and of course what they think is fun. The characters in the book are mostly teenage boys at a private school, and they are either in or victims to the club called the Vigils. The school is going down because they don’t have much money, and the vigils tell a boy to not sell chocolates for the annual chocolate sell, but only for a week. The boy rebells not selling chocolates at all. Then because the boy rebells the vigils sell all the chocolates for everyone and have the boy that rebelled beat up in a boxing match. It is a good book if one likes teenage realistic fiction, if your a boy you can probably relate to what the boys in this book do, if your a girl, read it for a laugh, because you know that guys really act like that. ;)

I recommend the novel The Chocolate War, written by Robert Cormier, to those who enjoy reading about teenagers, their outrageous adventures, and the sticky situations they get themselves into. The novel follows the life of a young teenage boy, Jerry Renault, in a private school, who rebels against his school, and the popular but very secretive group known as the Vigils. Jerry Renault causes havoc and mayhem within the boys in his school, by refusing to sell chocolates in the annual school chocolate sale. To see what happens to Jerry Renault I strongly recommend you read this book
